Shakespeare's Table Tents

Bret Hodgson - Employee of the Month, September 2000

Every month Shake’s employees nominate and vote for one of their own to be Emp o’ Month. The winner gets one misprinted, reject Shakes T-shirt; a White Chip Macadamia Nut Cookie; a table tent full of balderdash to send home; and a $50 bonus.

Bret comes from a long line of pizza guys. Bret’s great-great-grandfather Bernie Hodgson delivered pizza in Spokane in 1972. He got more tips than anyone. "I’d take my time getting there, you know, but I’d get there quick enough. But as soon as they’d, like, open the door, you know, I’d start panting and breathing hard and stuff, you know, like I was running or something to get them their pizza, like. And if it was cold and rainy I’d act wet and I’d shiver. And they’d feel all sorry for me, you know, and they’d think I’d been running and stuff, and they’d give me a real good tip."

Bernie’s grandson Bart carried on the family tradition by rolling out the crusts for Big Bertha’s Pizza Joint and Sportin’ House in Reno way back in the 80’s. His specialty was rolling out crusts in the shape of any state you wanted. "Colorado was easy, but I’d take a smoke break anytime I saw a Michigan plate drive in the parking lot. And Alaska… what a mess. The Aleutians were a real pain."

Bart’s grandson Bret currently works in our Frozen Division. He can shrink-wrap 3.2 pies an minute. Once he accidentally shrink-wrapped a kindergartener that was here on a field trip and we didn’t find him until he was in the frozen truck, but that’s another story.

Congratulations, Bret.
